Three Things I Want For My Daughter

Oct 17, 2008

Today is my date day with Charisse (Clemson game tomorrow…gotta go to that…but refuse to sacrifice my time with her.)

If you haven’t been able to see it my now…I am crazy about my little girl…and I have some things I want for her…such as…

#1 - I Desperately Want For Her To Receive Christ!

This means the Gospel MUST be presented to her 24/7 in the way that I live my life.  ANYONE can fake it for an hour on stage…but hopefully she sees Jesus in me NOT just when I preach…but in the way I treat her mother with tenderness, the waitress with respect and the person who cuts me off in traffic with understanding.

#2 - I Desperately Want For Her To Know She Is Beautiful!

One of the things I am talking about this weekend here at NewSpring Church is the fact that MOST women do not feel beautiful.  (It really is quite simple as to why…like I said, we will deal with that this weekend.)

BUT with Charisse…I want her to grow up hearing, “You are so beautiful” from her daddy.  I’m already doing a pretty good job at this; in fact, if you ask her “who is pretty” she will answer “me!”  (Yes, I taught her that.)

Fathers…someone is going to tell your little girl she is beautiful…either you can do it or the dude trying to get her into the backseat can do it!  BE THE FIRST TO AFFIRM HER BEAUTY!!!  That way when she hears it from someone else it won’t be anything she hasn’t heard before.

#3 - I Desperately Want Her To Understand How Important She Is To Me.

That means spending TIME with her…date mornings WITHOUT the cell phone.  (Dads…you are NOT spending time with your kid when you take them out and spend the entire time talking on the phone.)
I once heard Mark Batterson say, “It is my job as a dad to create memories for my children.”  BAM!!!  I WANT THAT for Charisse!

AND…being a pastor—this means that she never begins to resent the church because I allowed it to take me from her!

Now…to the date…I LOVE time with my little girl!
