I have been reading through the Bible recently—and am currently in II Chronicles. There has been a phrase that has been CAPTIVATING my attention in my readings lately…but before I get there let me review just a tad.
The books of I & II Kings and I & Chronicles basically tell the stories of the kings that ruled in Israel and in Judah. Scripture makes it very clear that there were some really great kings—and then there were some flat out horrible ones as well.
SO…what distinguished the good ones from the bad ones? Simple—when Scripture is describing a good king the Bible says, “He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord.” AND…when Scripture is describing a bad king the Bible says, “He did not do what was right in the eyes of the Lord,” OR, “He did what was evil in the eyes of the Lord.”
The phrase “in the eyes of the Lord” has REALLY been turning over and over in my mind during the past month. AND I WANT TO DO WHAT IS RIGHT IN HIS EYES MORE THAN ANYTHING IN THE WORLD!!!
How do we do what is right in the eyes of the Lord? Simple…
- Read Your Bible
- Go to a church where the Bible is taught
- Ask godly people for wisdom (they will usually quote the Bible!)
- Listen to the Holy Spirit (by the way…He will never lead you in a way that contradicts the Bible!)
So…as you examine your life…are you doing what is right in the eyes of the Lord? I want this—it is my passion because I know that in doing so that I will live a life with NO REGRETS!!!
- I will not make stupid mistakes as a husband if I do what is right in His eyes.
- I will not make stupid mistakes as a parent if I do what is right in His eyes.
- I will not make stupid mistakes financially if I do what is right in His eyes.
- I will not make stupid mistakes spiritually if I do what is right in His eyes.
- I will not make stupid mistakes when it comes to the leadership of this church if I will just do what is right in His eyes.
My prayer is that I will ALWAYS do what is right in His eyes…THAT is how to live a life with no regrets. Seriously…I challenge you—look back over your life at the BIGGEST regret you have relationally, emotionally, financially…and I think we can all agree that the regret we thought of was something that we KNOW wasn’t right in the eyes of the Lord.
If a book were written about your life—would it say that you are doing what is right in the eyes of the Lord, or vice versa? Great question—wrestle with it…I have been!!!
