It’s Friday—YEAH!

Jan 6, 2006

Whew! It’s Friday—busy week…but that’s the way I like it…BUSY…yep—that’s me…until I began really concentrating on something this morning in Scripture.

GOD was (AND IS) serious about us taking a day of rest.

He didn’t mix words when it came to this command; in fact, it is the longest command in the 10 commandments…He literally hits every aspect of it!

And then as I have been reading through the book of Exodus He keeps on saying it!

Now I used to try to be super spiritual and say that “there are seasons where you just have to go for it and God understands.”

No He doesn’t!

I was reading this morning that He told the Israelites that they were to take a Sabbath—EVEN during the times of harvest! Translation—even when there is more to do than you could ever imagine—REST!

I don’t know if I have any fellow strugglers out there (wink-wink)—but this is tough for me. I feel like I have to be going at the speed of light—always calling someone, meeting with someone, preparing something…and it can be overwhelming at times because I find myself longing for just some time where I can sit and do nothing—but then when I get there it’s uncomfortable.

Why is that? Maybe God knew what He was talking about when He said, “Be still and know that I am God.” It’s a challenge for me—but the times I am the most still is when I can hear His voice the loudest!

I am going to try in 2006 to be more serious about the Sabbath—to take time to rest, reflect, and listen. I remember a statement by Bill Hybils once when he was reflecting on a time in his life when he was going at blazing speed—he said, “The rate at which I was doing the work of God was destroying God’s work in me!”

I am a self motivated person and will probably always struggle with this; however, God has been doing a work in me lately & showing me that taking a day off is NOT a sin—in fact—working all the time without a day off IS A SIN! (I used to say that the devil never takes a day off—why should I…until I realized that the devil isn’t supposed to be my example—God is—and He clearly took a day off!)

Taking a day off reminds me that the world does not revolve around me…it’s in His hands. I have found that many times I am quick to say that He is in control—but my schedule says that I believe that I am actually the one the world is depending upon.

So once again—2006—more days off! I’ve got to—it is an issue of obedience!

Whew! That was fun—have a great weekend!
