Hurricane Relief Efforts

Sep 1, 2005

I am continually amazed at the stuff I am seeing coming out of New Orleans and the surrounding efforts…I to be honest…I have felt helpless—like all I can do is sit and watch.

But that is changing!!!

Here is what New Spring is going to be doing in the next several weeks!

The first step we are going to take is this—for each person who attends New Spring this Sunday—the church will make a $5 donation to the hurricane relief effort on their behalf. In other words—if we have 4,000 people then we will be writing a check for $20,000 to the effort, if there are 5,000 then we will write one for $25,000. Seriously—every man, woman, and child—$5.

So my encouragement to you is INVITE people to New Spring this Sunday…we will be presenting a creative relevant message…but more than that—tell them if they come that it will mean $5 towards the relief effort. We could not think of how much money to give & thought that this solution would be the best.

Second—we are actively seeking to find out what is needed the most in the areas that are the hardest hit. We are doing all that we can to make sure that we have a list of needs to pass out at church this Sunday…and we want to fill up a truck full of supplies to send their way. There is actually a church in Baton Rouge that will be responsible for distributing the items we send…so it is like we are doing something biblical here—churches partnering with churches!

Third…when the time comes to rebuild and teams will be allowed to go into the areas that are hardest hit and minister—we are making plans to be there. We are not sure what that looks like yet—so be patient as we work with officials in the area to see what we can do and when we can do it.

This is exciting…it is a way for us to get beyond the walls of our church—and even out of Anderson—and do something significant for the kingdom. God will be honored in this…and I am convinced that lives will be changed.

Get people there this Sunday!
