Normally I take this particular blog post on Monday’s to take a minute to encourage pastors and church leaders…but today there is something important I need to address…
On September 21st a major flood hit the Atlanta area…especially the western side.
Most of the homes in this area are inhabited by lower middle class working families and, unfortunatly, around 95% of the houses that were impacted were not is a designated flood plain AND had NO flood insurance.
AND…THEY NEED OUR HELP!
We are going to be partnering with Shaun King at Courageous Church and HopeATL.com who have been leading volunteer crews of 10 to 12 people to perform as much demolition as possible.
At the present time, homes are still being gutted of personal items, furniture, appliances, flooring, sub-flooring, electrical wiring, heating & air, and drywall. These demolition projects do not have to be performed by skilled construction crews, so any able-bodied person can help with the demolition effort. Teams will need to be equipped with hand tools such as hammers, crow-bars, wheelbarrows, gloves and masks, and power tools such as circular saws, recriprocating saws, and power generators. We will bus our teams from the Anderson Campus at 7 am this Saturday, October 17th and be back in Anderson by 8:00 pm.
Timing is everything because the City of Atlanta is giving the area 7 more days (till this Saturday Oct. 17th) to demo the ruined materials out of the homes. After the 17th the City will pick up their dumpsters and will not remove any other flood damaged waste. After the city hauls away the dumpsters, homeowners will have to dispose of anything left themselves.
SO…we’re looking for volunteers…LOTS of them…from WHATEVER campus you may attend…to JUMP IN and help us out with this project. We’ve been asked to help…and it is my prayer that we will step up in a HUGE WAY so that a HUGE difference can be made!
Can you help? If so…then email us at hello@newspring.cc with your contact phone number and email address ASAP and we will be in touch.
Seriously NewSpring…lets do all we can to reach out a hand to our neighbors in the ATL…it will take a day of our time and maybe a good bit of sweat and hard work…but doing this IS LIVING the GOSPEL out in front of people…and I am quite sure lives will be changed.
