Five Leadership Lids To Break Through In 2017 (Show Notes)
We had a BLAST recording the Perry Noble Leadership Podcast last week - and, as promised, here are the show notes.
Five Leadership Lids We Can Break Through In 2017
#1 - The Information Lid
The world is changing, 20 year strategic plans are a thing of the past - planning for the next 6-12 months is what leaders must embrace.
In 2006 - just 11 years ago the following things did not exist.
- iPhone
- iPad
- Kindle
- Uber
- Airbnb
- Android
- Oculus
- Spotify
- Nest
- Stripe
- Square
- Slack
- Spotify
- Snapchat
If you are a leader one of the biggest opportunities to bust through the information lid is to identify three of the things on this list you are unfamiliar with and become an expert at them--it will EXCEL your leadership.
COULD pick three in the list I just gave and learn about them!!!
I also mentioned that we can bust through the lid by reading books - three I've enjoyed lately are...
- “Win Forever” by Pete Carroll
- “Ego is the Enemy” by Ryan Holiday
- “Helping People Win At Work” by Ken Blanchard & Garry Ridge (yes, the story of my uncle Cowboy using WD40 for his arthritis is true!!!
Podcasts...
- “The Learning Leader” by Ryan Hawk = Ryan is, hands down, one of the BEST interviewers on the planet...this podcast is GOLD!
- “Building a Storybrand” by Donald Miller
- “Entreleadersip” by Ramsey Solutions
#2 - The Staffing Lid
In order to break through the staffing lid we must...
A. Hire the right people - remember, skill is good, a fit for culture is way better.
B. Train the people you have - training is not a class but rather an ongoing process.
This Friday we will open up registration for...
A One Day Business roundtable on Monday, March 20 that will focus on the Seven Mistakes Most Businesses Make...And How To Fix Them. Cost will be $499 per person and the event will be held in Anderson, SC (this event is limited to 50 people).
A Day and a half (Tuesday, March 21 and Wednesday, March 22) for church leaders that will focus on....
- Insight on how to build the most dynamic culture your church has ever experienced.
- How to plan a creative sermon calendar (you will walk away with a schedule of concepts for the next year.)
- How to recruit and keep volunteers
- How to maximize the evangelism impact of your church
- Five ways to increase giving
- Why small groups are so essential to the health of a church (as well as three things you can do to significantly increase small group participation)
Cost for this event will be $499 per person and it will be held in Anderson, SC and will be limited to 50 people as well.
#3 - The Resource Lid
It takes FOUR things for churches to raise money (in the podcast I said three...but have since added one!)
1 - Vision
2 - Awareness
3 - Practical Help (helping people with their finances) - if you REALLY want to help people win with their money you can get in touch with my friends at "I Was Broke, Now I'm Not," they are INCREDIBLE at helping people in your church step OUT of debt and INTO financial freedom!
4 - A PLAN!
I once had a mentor tell me, "fail to plan, plan to fail." In my opinion, THE BEST PEOPLE to help your church with a giving plan are my friends at Fully Funded - trust me, if you find yourself beating your head against the wall every year they will help you set and sustain a path that will take stress out of your life! HERE IS THE LINK
When it comes to businesses and resources...my friend Donald Miller says people don’t always buy the best product - buy the one they understand the best. (One of the things we do at The Growth Company is help businesses clarify their message both internally and externally - let us know if we can help.)
#4 - The Passion Lid
People of passion make things happen...and if the leader lacks passion, so will the people that follow!
In order to find our passion we need to answer the question WHY we do what we do - if you have not watched this Ted Talk by Simon Sinek, trust me when I tell you it's worth 18 minutes of your time!!
#5 - The Excuse Lid
People who make excuses rarely make a difference.
The excuse lid is when leaders make excuses for mediocrity and/or under performance.
One of the BIGGEST excuses today in church world is, "People are leaving the church!" While some people see this as a problem...I see this as an opportunity, instead of crying about it let's DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO REACH THEM!!!
In the business world the people who sit around and complain about obstacles will eventually be surpassed by people who see those obstacles as opportunities.
