10. Am I Trusting His Holy Spirit To Lead Me?

In Matthew 10:19-20 Jesus is very clear that when we get in situations where we don’t know what to do or say…and that when that happens the Holy Spirit will provide the direction.

There have been so many times where as a leader I don’t have the answer.  (By the way, one of the maturing marks of a leader is knowing when to say “I don’t know”.)  But one of the things that I have discovered is that when we don’t know what to do or what to say that is the ripest time for God’s Spirit to move.

I believe He will often put us in situations where we do not have the answer in order that we learn to depend on His leadership and not our good ideas and philosophy.

The Holy Spirit’s leadership must always trump any structure in our church that we have established.  One of the sad things I believe is happening in our churches today is way too much dependence on strategies and structures and not on the Spirit!

YES!  I do actually believe that strategy and structure is important…and…I also believe that God’s Holy Spirit leads us to develop strategy and helps us establish structure; however, when we become married to a process rather than HIS leadership—we’re in trouble!

Take a look at Acts 2…this move of God wasn’t due to strategy and/or structure…but rather the Holy Spirit moving in an unexplainable and undeniable way.  What did Peter do?  EXACTLY what Jesus told him to…and the result was around 3,000 people receiving Christ!  (Acts 2:41)
