My alarm went off at 4:30 this morning…country music…don’t get me wrong…I do love SOME country music…but nothing, I mean NOTHING, is more annoying at 4:30 in the morning than country music!
Immediately I went through a mental checklist of all that I need to do today…have my quiet time, workout, go to the office—get some COFFEE…blog…
“Wait a minute,” I thought, “why blog? Why do I make that a part of my day?”
I remember a year and a half ago when Ken Wilson, our Technology Director, came to me and told me I needed to blog. To be honest—when I first heard the term “blog” it sounded like some sort of disease! So…when Ken kept hounding me about it…I finally began to investigate and discovered that I should give it a shot.
Here we are a year and a half later…and I am still blogging. But why?
NewSpring is a large church—and we are going to get larger. God has called us to reach those who are lost and unchurched in this community. Yes, we did see 214 people accept Christ two weeks ago—yes, we did see 413 people baptized this past Sunday…BUT remember there are 3,814 names on our stage right now of people who need Jesus…and we will not be content until every one of them come to church, hear about Jesus, and receive Christ.BUT…with all that growth…sometimes the pastor can not maintain any type of connection with the people who attend the church. I have discovered that blogging is a great way to share what I am thinking, prayer requests, vision, information…announcement (FIRST WEDNESDAY THIS WEDNESDAY) and many other things as well.
I also LOVE the feedback that comes through my blog. We receive TONS of e-mails from this site…and all of them are responded to in some fashion. (With a few exceptions—such as people who also may have a blog—attend or pastor a church with 20 people in it…all of whom are Christian…and try to tell us all that we are doing wrong OR how to run this church.)
Seriously—we have been able to do some incredible ministry through this blog—answer some tough questions—have received sermon ideas…and a host of other things as well. We love the feedback we get here from those who have serious questions about Jesus and His church.
Also…through blogging I have established some incredible relationships—I won’t take the time to mention all of them here…but go to my links page and check these people out…there is some really good stuff in blog world.
Blogging isn’t for everyone…but I love doing it because it is yet another way to provide a point of connection with people who want to check NewSpring out…because I am able to share what is going on here, both the good and the bad…because people can hear my heart through my writing…because there are times I actually feel like I have something worth saying…
I love this stuff…and blogging is a part of what I do…thanks again for stopping by! See you on Wednesday!
