The Reason I Failed So Many Times With Weight Loss…(and how I FINALLY got past it!)

"I'm going on a diet/trying a new program on Monday," would be the declaration I made to as many people as possible.

When I made the announcement I had the fullest intention of following through, thus allowing me to be super fit and look super lean.  

However, the longest I would last when I attempted these extreme programs would be 3-4 days max, and, before I knew it I would say "screw it" and dive back into eating whatever I wanted.  

After a few months I would try again--only to fall flat on my face in less than a week.  I would maintain working out; however, it was the nutrition side of things where I kept falling short over and over again. 

The reason why?  I had the "go big or go home" mentality.  

I wanted to see immediate results - and when I did not have the body I desired in less than a week I would tell myself, "this isn't worth it" and go back to eating whatever I wanted.  

However, all of that changed for me around 18 months ago - and today - I am the leanest I've ever been, have more energy than I did 20 years ago and am in the best shape I've ever been in.  

How did I do it - by arriving at the following conclusion...

Small steps, over time, lead to tremendous change.  

Eating right (notice I did not say diet) and exercise are things that need to be dedicated to daily - and stepping into it wisely and willingly, understanding it's a process is the key.  

Here are four of the small steps I took that led to tremendous change.  

#1 - I stopped drinking my calories!  

I know I write about this a lot, but this small step will produce unbelievable results.  (Soda's--even DIET soda's, sweet tea and alcohol will put on the pounds--period!)   

Pretty much all I drink now is black coffee and water - and while it took me awhile to get to this point, it has absolutely made a difference in the way I look and feel.  

#2 - I became serious about lifting weights!  

I used to believe that "cardio is king," and that by doing around and hour and a half of cardio 5-6 times per week I would lose weight and get healthy...

...which is not the case at all!  I was actually gaining weight and was always tired/lacking energy.  

Until I became more serious about lifting weights.  

Adding lean muscle allows our bodies to burn more fat throughout the day - and a great weight workout actually can leave us feeling energized rather than depleted.  

#3 - I eliminated around 70% of my sweets and "wheats!"  

If you follow me on social media--you know I LOVE sweets (especially ice cream and doughnuts!)  

In the past (when I would attempt a diet and then fail) I would make the commitment to not eat anything sweet for a week, or at times--a month (and we all know how that went!)  

However, over time I realized an occasional "reward" is a good thing--I just enjoy desserts in moderation now rather than having to have them at every meal.  

And bread - I LOVE IT - but when I began to eliminate it from my daily food intake I saw pretty incredible results.  

#4 - I started Isagenix

My weight went down from 240 to 215...and then I hit a wall!  

It didn't matter what I did--it seemed the scale was stuck at 215 and was unwilling to show me any mercy (no matter what I did.)
