I am sitting here in a complete state of exhaustion. If you are a pastor then you will completely understand what I mean when I say that today I delivered a message that was NOT fun…but was so necessary. The sermon I preached was on sexual temptation and it was quite possibly the heaviest message I’ve ever been led to preach.
Honestly, I am physically sick right now. From time to time I believe that God allows a pastor to feel the weight of a message…and also the struggles and tensions of the people in the room. I felt like I was going to pass out at one point in the fourth service…seriously, it was freaky. BUT…the message was delivered and now it is time for bed. Before I go here are a few things…
- As I said today…there is not ONE MAN on the planet that hasn’t dealt with sexual temptation
this weektoday—thus the reason for a message. Too many churches seem to be obsessed with history lessons instead of current reality! - I did go places and did say things today that caused people to wince (should have seen it from where i was.) I wanted to be clear…pastors who won’t say what needs to be said bother me. God didn’t call me to play games…He called me to preach His Word…all of it…even the parts on sex! :-)
- Yes, as a matter of fact I do believe we pushed the edge music and video wise today…as I’ve said before, I believe in every church service there should be an element that makes us all feel incredibly uncomfortable…and we should be mature enough to handle it.
- Because of Jesus Christ and HIS victory over sin—I can have victory over sin…and so can you.
- Dude, if you are addicted to porn…seriously, repent. Get some help! Please e-mail us if we can help—it will ultimately destroy you if you are not careful! (See James 1:13-15)
- There is no sin that has the potential to destroy the work and image of God in us like sexual sin.
- Men, we have to be INTENTIONAL about our time with Jesus AND resisting temptation…godliness does not happen by accident.
- It was VERY tense in the room today when I addressed the issue of the way women dress…but everything I said needed to be said and, after I said it…I was glad that I did.
- There were seemingly more women excited about the fact that I addressed it than men.
- For the record…I did say the word “boobies” in all four services.
- Can’t wait for next week and our walk through the Song of Solomon from a females perspective!
- As I said today…my prayer for the men in our church all day has been for brokenness and repentance, and I will continue to pray for that this week.
- I believe if men would be men, love their wives as Christ loves the church and lead their families the way God instructs us to…well…the world would be a much better place to live.
That’s it—bed time!
