Sunday Night Reflections…

Dec 2, 2007

Here are a few thoughts (or maybe more than a few)...

  • THIS story by Bobby G about his transsexual friend ROCKED ME to the CORE! THIS is why we do church!!! Thank God for churches who do not EXPECT people to have their lives perfect before they hit the door!!!  (AND also for understanding that people who know Christ still screw up!)
  • I cannot describe the sense of anticipation that the Lord is building inside of me…all this week I felt like I was going to explode!
  • I thought today was awesome! Even though I did wear a suit…I thought the service was one that will not soon be forgotten.
  • Wearing the suit reminded me of how grateful I am that God doesn’t expect me to dress like that every week. :-) Seriously—God is NOT impressed with our acts of righteousness. After all—what in the world could you and I ever do to impress Him?
  • Please pray for me—I’ve been sick and about lost my voice in the fourth service!  Nothing serious, just a head cold—but after speaking four times my vocal cords are really upset with me right now!!!
  • The lobby looked INCREDIBLE today—props to all of the volunteers who made that happen, YOU GUYS (AND GALS) ROCK!!! Seriously—that tree is amazing!
  • Christmas services are going to be incredible—get your friends and family here who do not know Christ! Folks, I can’t emphasize how willing people are to come to church during the Christmas season…all many of them are waiting on is a personal invitation.
  • We have a building in Greenville!!! The old BI-LO off of Roper Mountain Road is going to be NewSpring’s Greenville campus! The lease was signed this past week and it is now official.  For a while it looked like the deal might fall through…but obviously God wanted us there!!!
  • Our original goal was to launch our Greenville campus by Easter…but due to a delay in getting the lease we’re going to have to delay that…BUT…I promise…as soon as we can get things done we are there! Plans have already been drawn up and we are ready to roll.
  • I read that over 60% of Greenville is unchurched—I am BEGGING God that He will use NewSpring to make a SERIOUS dent in that statistic!
  • This week I will be doing a series of posts about spiritual warfare that should begin on Tuesday.  I get asked a lot of questions about it…so I thought I would tackle the issue.
  • I had forgotten how HOT it is in a suit!
  • The number one question I had asked of me all day today after seeing me in the suit was, “Who died?” The second most asked question was, “What did you do with my preacher?”
  • I once had a lady tell me that if I thought a suit was uncomfortable then I should try pantyhose! I can pretty much promise you will NOT be seeing that anytime soon!!!
  • I can’t get the idea of running another marathon (let me clarify—ATTEMPTING to run another marathon) out of my head. I may try the San Diego one in 09!
  • Charisse is rolling over like crazy now…and she has discovered that her vocal cords pretty much have no limits as far as her range…I think she has shattered three windows with her little shrills. :-)
  • Last night (Saturday) I ate a half a rack of ribs from the ‘Ole Country Smokehouse. I KNOW they were not good for me—but wow—I LOVE their ribs.  AND…I did eat vegetables as well…which I believe cancel out the fat in the ribs!
  • Clemson is going to the Peach Bowl…and the Gamecocks are going to…uh…wait…I’m looking…uh…not finding anything here so far.  I will continue to search—maybe something will turn up!
  • I got to meet this young lady tonight at church!  She told me the story of how God had her in the right place at the right time, about how she NEVER plays tennis but decided to go with a friend…and wound up saving a guys life.  Caitlin—YOU ROCK!  (PS—she doesn’t really like the picture in the article, she made a comment that she didn’t have time to do her makeup!!!)
  • I am really looking forward to a lunch with local pastors on Thursday, December 20th.  I said this on Friday…but if you are a local pastor and want to grab some grub then shoot me an e-mail and let me know.  I would love to just hang out and chat!

That’s about it for now—I hear my bed calling!!!
