Seven Things A Church Needs For Continual Growth

Feb 13, 2017

#1 - Leadership That is ON FIRE!

If the leadership is not fired up about the church and what’s in store for the future the people they are leading will follow suit.  Jesus started a FIRE in Acts chapter two - but only after He has started a FIRE in the people who would be leading the church in the Gospels.

#2 - A Clearly Defined 6-12 month strategy (vision)

Proverbs 29:18 (KJV) says, “Where there is no vision, the people perish…”  In other words, people (and churches) DIE without vision.

Years ago it was quite popular to plan a 5, 10 even 25 year strategy; however, with the world changing more rapidly than even I believe planning and executing strategic vision in 6-12 month increments is one of the most effective ways to keep the church moving forward.

#3 - Culture that will sustain the vision

“Culture eats vision for lunch!” - I’m not exactly sure who I heard say that phrase - but I believe it with all my heart.  If you have the right vision with the wrong culture then the vision will be nothing more than a daydream.

#4 - A sermon calendar that flows with the season

A very wise a godly man showed me how to plan out a preaching calendar in 2001 - and WHAT we preach and WHEN we preach it really can be used to build incredible momentum in our churches.

#5 - Consistent & Generous giving

Question:  How much ministry can a church do for $100?

Answer:  About $100 worth!

If a church is going to maximize the ministry opportunities in front of it - then it has to have both consistent and generous giving happening on a consistent basis.  (And it takes more than the occasional “drive by guilting” aka sermon on money to set this in motion.)

#6 - Fired up volunteers and small groups

EVERYONE in EVERY church is gifted to do something - and when they begin to experience Jesus working through them to make a difference, they become fully alive.

And community is not just a good idea for believers - it is essential for us to be able to thrive in our walk with Jesus!

#7 - A unapologetic and focused approach to evangelism

When people inside the church understand the Gospel was given to us to take to the world and take the Great Commission seriously…that church can become an unstoppable force in the community in which it is planted.

If you are interested in diving a little deeper into these topics - then join me on March 21-22 for our church leaders roundtable where we will be talking about…

  • How to develop a 6-12 month strategic plan that you can be excited about.
  • How to ensure you have the right people in the right places on your team (culture).
  • How to plan a sermon calendar that will keep more people engaged throughout the year.
  • Five ways to increase giving in your church.
  • How to recruit and keep volunteers.
  • A revolutionary approach to small groups that will literally change the temperature of your church.
