Setting An Example Or Making An Excuse?
Have you ever wished you could take your leadership ability up a notch, but didn’t really know what the best next step would be?
If the answer is “yes” then let me say I completely understand where you are…
The difference between leaders who are able to take it to the next level and the ones who are not is often found in whether or not those particular leaders lead by example - or rather by making excuses.
For example - I received the following email this week from a church planter in Germany in regards to The Preaching Workshop I will be hosting on November 8-9.
For us the workshop opportunity in November is very special, that`s why we are coming with 2 people from Germany to Anderson. We will come with an international flight to Atlanta Airport.
Without knowing Perry Noble helped us building a church in Germany about 4 years ago. We used a lot from his teachings, leadership resources, podcasts, blogs, etc. to preach and teach our people. Our church grew from about 5 people to about 100. That`s why we don't want to miss his workshop in Anderson.
While I do not know hardly anything about this gentleman - I have NO DOUBT his church will continue to experience healthy, sustainable growth because of his willingness to invest in himself (as well as the person he is bringing with him!)
(After all - Proverbs 4:7 says - The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.)
In contrast - I received an email from a church planter the other day in the United States (won’t say where…but less than a two hour flight away) who essentially said…
“I’m a church planter, I don’t have the money to travel - is there any way I could have this resource…”
I understand what it’s like to be both broke and full of vision, however, I also understand if you want something you can either make an excuse—or do whatever it takes to get it. (I will explain more about this in a post either later on this week or early next week.)
At the end of the day the leader who is not willing to invest in their personal leadership development will eventually be surpassed by someone who is willing to make the investment.
And…just in case you think this is all about my Preaching Workshop (which is going to be amazing) - it’s really not.
If you can’t afford to attend—I get it…
- So get this book by Andy Stanley on preaching/communicating…
- Or get “The Presentation Secrets of Steve Jobs” - (one of the BEST books on communicating I’ve ever read).
- Or, like I said yesterday, get “Building a Story Brand” by Don Miller…this book will REALLY teach you what to say and how to say it.
At the end of the day…you can grab those books for less that $60 and they will absolutely help you in your development as a speaker/communicator.
Because…either you will make excuses as to why you CAN’T - or you will show the world an example of why you CAN—period.
Go here if you want to register for the preaching workshop...or simply find out more information!
