Random Thought Thursday Part One—Can I Tell ‘Ya Something?

Nov 10, 2005

\So I was getting my haircut a few weeks ago and Amanda (that would be who cuts my hair) and I were talking about one of my favorite subjects—Ice Cream. (I am convinced that heaven is going to have 31,000 flavors—all with no calories!)

As all of you know I love Brusters Birthday Cake Ice Cream. (I have been informed by the owners of the local store that since talking about it and actually passing it out from the stage that it has been their top seller!) So we were talking about that and then she asked me if I was aware that Mayfield made birthday cake ice cream. I responded that I was—but it wasn’t as good as Brusters.

Then she asked me a question that has forever changed my life, “Have you tried that new flavor from Mayfield called Graham Slam?” She went on and on about how good it was—so the following Sunday morning when I was putting things on the grocery list I wrote that particular product down…and after speaking on Sunday AM I came home, had lunch, and then prepared a bowl of this new ice cream.

HOLY COW! (I just realized that’s kind of funny—get it, “cow”—ice cream—never mind!) This is one of the best flavors of ice cream that I have ever stuck in my mouth! I am convinced that if you put a bowl of this on your head that your tongue would beat you senseless trying to get to it. (That is actually a southern statement that is simply proclaiming that this product is worth purchasing AND consuming!)

Do yourself a favor—go to the grocery store and get some of this stuff—it rocks! (If you have tried it you know it’s good!)

You see—that is one of the most affective forms of advertising—word of mouth, someone tells someone who tells someone who tells someone…you get it, right?

That’s the way I am praying that our church will continue to grow. I continually ask God to allow us to be creative and excellent in the presentation of His truth—the Gospel…and that people will come, be transformed by Jesus…and then go and tell others about the experience that they had.

That’s what has been going on at our church for the past five and a half years…and it is my prayer that people will continue to reach people.

Saying all that to say this—make sure you invite someone to NewSpring this Sunday—and if you’ve invited them 1,000 times—make it 1,001 today.

I would also ask that if you could, please make a special effort to come at 8:30…at least for the next two weeks. We had over 1,500 people in our 9:45 service last week and were about 30 people away from having to tell people there was no more room. So please try to make it at 8:30 if you can—or 6:00 will be fine as well—and just for the next two weeks! :-)

One more thing…it is quite possible that some of you may try Graham Slam and not like it—and that’s fine, but don’t try and say that it’s not ice cream just because you do not like the product.

The same is true for NewSpring—there are people out there that do not approve of churches like ours—and that is AWESOME—it takes different types of churches to reach different types of people—just remember that NewSpring might not be someone’s “flavor”—and if not, great, help them to find the “flavor” in which they can best worship—but then again—our church just might just be what they need to introduce them to Jesus—so get them there and let’s see what He does!
