Here we go again…I will not be making a single post today—but multiple ones…check back if you can.

Thoughts On The Hurricane

I was amazed at what I saw yesterday—lines at gas stations—long ones…and the prices were higher than I have ever seen in my lifetime. From what I have seen & read the problem will not last long & there is relief in sight.

And through this I feel the Lord has challenged me and my attitude by allowing me to focus on some things.

I will admit that I was not happy yesterday when I was putting gas in my car @ $3 a gallon—and I began to complain about the high prices and how oil companies are getting rich. I also began to talk about it with others in a negative way…to worry about how this was going to affect some travel plans that I have on the agenda…in short, I did what most of us do—I became concerned with how this was going to affect ME!!!

And then…CONVICTION!

I began to think last night as I was driving home, “I have a bed to sleep in tonight—and there are thousands of people who do not. My house has air-conditioner…and there are many hurricane victims who are still at the mercy of nature. At least I have a car—there are many people that their cars are completely submerged.”

This morning I had some more convicting thoughts, “I have the privilege to go to work today & there are many hurricane victims that wished they had that opportunity. I have the privilege of taking a hot shower…and there are many who might not have that luxury for weeks—even months.”

Yes, the hurricane effected us…and it did so in a place that hurts the most—our wallets. But what we are experiencing here in the upstate PALES in comparison to what thousands of others in Louisiana and Mississippi are going through—we have lost some additional money—they have lost their homes, their jobs…and many even lost their lives.

I have no right to complain—God has been good to me. (I must say it does amaze me that we will complain about $3 a gallon for gas…but we drink bottled water that cost between $5-10 a gallon!) I will admit it is a struggle not to complain—but what good does it do…it doesn’t bring the gas prices down…and it’s not going to help the REAL hurricane victims.

God is still good—He is still in control…and He will receive glory out of this! I am convinced.

Check back later today for updates on how New Spring is going to be involved in the hurricane relief efforts.
