Not “Feeling” Like It

Mar 3, 2006

I don’t feel good!

Seriously—I am sitting on my couch right now trying to keep excessive amounts of snot from coming out of my nose! (Sorry—but it’s true!!!)

What I want to do is crawl back in bed and chill for the rest of the day…I don’t feel like doing anything else; however, if I made the choice to allow my life to be governed simply because of how I felt at a particular moment…I would be in trouble—we ALL would be!

SO—I am going to go to the gym this morning and work out…I am going to mentally prepare for my 13.1 mile run tomorrow…I am going to go out with my wife for supper tonight…I refuse to let how I feel govern my decisions or my attitude.

The same can be said for our walk with Christ—I promise that there are days that I do not feel very godly…I do not “feel” like a Christian; however, I can’t let my feelings govern whether or not I am going to love Jesus and love others with all that I’ve got. Jesus didn’t say we are to do that when we “felt” like it…He said we are to do that at all times—no matter what.

AND PLEASE spare me, “Well, you don’t know about the kind of day I had!” Jesus modeled this for us—when they put Him on the cross He prayed for the forgiveness of those who were torturing Him. WOW—talk about a bad day—yet He modeled love—even though I am sure he was feeling intense pain!

I am not saying this is easy…and I often times fall into the trap of letting my feelings govern my attitude…but it’s my prayer and passion that each day I can get a little closer to Him…and in doing so become more like Him.

IN OTHER NEWS:

One of my favorite pastors, Mark Driscoll, began a blog about a month ago—he has several posts, but this one is awesome!

THIS is one of the funniest things I have ever seen in my life!!!

Tony’s insights on Leviticus are awesome!!!

Sunday at NewSpring is going to rock—we will be completing the “Traditions” series and starting a new one next week entitled, “March Madness—Becoming a Full Court Follower of Christ.” Let me say a couple of things about this one…

The message on March 12th is going to be VERY DIFFERENT! In fact, we are going to be able to do something we were never able to do when we met at Anderson University! That’s all I am saying about it…but I promise that you have never seen anything like what we are going to do…and it is our prayer that through this God rocks our world!!

Secondly—Ed Young is going to be speaking on March 19th. We spoke for a while yesterday on the telephone and I am just as excited about what he is going to be speaking about than what I am going to be speaking about over the next several weeks!!!

Have an awesome weekend!
