It’s NOT Easy…

Mar 9, 2009

People often ask me, “What is one of the biggest mistakes you’ve made as a leader?”  The answer is simple…making the EASY decision rather than the RIGHT decision.
Something hit me yesterday in my time with God…as a leader (and as a follower of Jesus Christ) I need to continually ask God for HIS way rather than the easy way!

Right now I am in Exodus on my journey through the Bible…and after the Israelites were released from slavery…well…the Bible says in Exodus 13:17-18 that God didn’t take them on the easiest way…but rather on the way that was best for them.

So many times I am guilty of praying and asking God to make things easy for me…when in actuality I should be asking God to show me HIS WAYS.

One of the biggest mistakes I’ve made as a leader is thinking that God’s ways were always going to be quick, painless and make perfect sense…when Scripture points to the contrary so many times.

Why do I want the easy way out?  Simple…because it’s best for ME!  BUT…if the Israelites would have taken the easy way out, if they had chosen the route that had made sense…their “movement” could have been demolished before it ever had a chance to really get going.

Following Jesus isn’t easy…it never has been.  However, I am SO guilty of wanting it to be…and as a result I often find myself asking God to do things that would make “my life” so much better.

However, He’s changing this area of my life…instead of looking for the way that make sense I am now begging Him to make sense of HIS ways to me in His time…and to lead me step by step, EVEN when His leadership doesn’t make sense.

God is holy…that means He is perfect…and so are His ways!  I cannot mess up by listening to Him and following His directions, even when they take me “a little out of the way,” at the end of the day I’ve got to know that HE has a plan…He’s smarter than me…and I cannot go wrong following Him!

Just something I am in the process of learning!
