How Do I Listen To God?  Part Three

Sep 5, 2008

Maybe I will finish this today…maybe it’s one more post—we’ll see!

T = Tackle Sin Issues In Your Life

Sin will always cause the voice of God to grow faint in our lives—ALWAYS!

The simple fact is that we can’t allow sin to dominate our lives and walk in intimate fellowship with God at the same time…it is an impossibility.

Whenever I talk with someone about not being able to hear God I usually go here first, asking if there is any unconfessed/unrepented of sin in their lives.

AND…if there is…people KNOW IT.  Whenever I’ve walked in rebellion I didn’t have to have anyone point it out to me…I knew it…I think every child of God does.

AND…until we deal with THE ISSUE that God is continually bringing up to us…He will never speak to us about “what’s next!”

E = Enjoy Life

One of the things I’m TRYING to do is have more fun!  Why?  Because I’ve found that when I’m really relaxed—THAT is usually when I get the best leadership and sermon ideas.

So many times we get so caught up in our routines and rituals that we schedule God right out of our lives.

When was the last time you went on a drive—with the cell phone and the radio off?  When was the last time you went on a long walk?  Played golf with a good friend?  Did something you REALLY love to do?

Seriously, some of my most enjoyable times on this planet have also been some of my most intense spiritual moments as well.

N = Never Assume That God’s Not Talking

Jesus said in John 5:17 that His Father is always at work!

ALWAYS!

I believe God is always speaking…and when there’s a problem hearing His voice…then that is on my end.

Just look at the world we live in…God is…

  • Screaming in each sunset, “I am creative and beautiful!”
  • Shouting through each newborn child, “I am the giver of life!”
  • Showing us in each thunderstorm, “I am more powerful than you could ever imagine.”

I could go on and on…but the fact is God is ALWAYS speaking.  We just need to position ourselves to hear His voice…and follow!
