Grace Covers ALL your sins (even the ones from your past)

Nov 10, 2014

We all have things in our past that we're not proud of. But we have to remember that every person we lock eyes with (including the person we saw in the mirror this morning) needs grace and forgiveness. We have to let our past die, because if we don't, it will not allow us to truly live! Jesus WANTS for us to have a life that is filled with joy! He knew every stupid, foolish, sinful decision we would ever make, and yet He still chose to create us, love us, pursue us, and rescue us.

Our past only defines us when we lose sight of the future Christ has for us.

I get the privilege to pastor NewSpring Church and on many Sundays when I’m giving the invitation after a message about God’s love, His unbelievable grace, how He forgives and has an amazing plan for our lives I will see a person in the crowd that has that look on their face that says, “I really want to believe what you are saying…but I can’t because…” And then comes the list of all the things they’ve done wrong and how God can’t truly forgive me for that.

But what they don’t understand is that it says in the Bible that if we confess that we are sinners, God will forgive us for ALL our sins...past, present and future (1 John 1:9)! He wants us to know that there is RIGHT NOW no condemnation if we are in Christ...no matter what we’ve done (Romans 8:1)! He wants us to know that His grace is sufficient to cover anything from our past (2 Corinthians 12:9)! He wants us to live an abundant life right NOW (John 10:10)! If we want to achieve what God wants for us NOW…we have GOT to let go of “then!”

Unfortunately, too many people are too close to their past to fully understand their potential.

When we embrace who Christ is, what He’s done and what He’s called us to do (confess His name and repent of sin) then the possibilities are unlimited as to what Christ can do in and through us.

He’s NOT through with you! He still has a plan and purpose for you regardless of your past. Don’t allow your past to be the prison that prevents you from the amazing potential that is yours in Christ.

If you don’t let your past die then it won’t let you live! Whatever happened….God KNEW it was going to happen before He ever created you. He’s NOT surprised by it, He still loves you and He still wants great things for you.

So…confess, repent…and when the devil comes at you with your past then ball up your fist and punch him in the freakin’ throat!
