#3 - Bishop T.D. Jakes
I personally believe that Bishop Jakes is one of the most gifted leaders that I’ve ever seen in my life. I love to hear the man teach…especially on the subject of leadership.
(I bought his “Best Of” sermon series and play it on my ipod when I run sometimes…always makes me run faster.)
Once again…got to tell a few people here to get a freakin life…because every time I mention Bishop Jakes in any positive light the “theology police” write in and begin to list all of the problems they have with the things he teaches.
Let me share a couple of thoughts about this…
Number One – I have never heard Bishop Jakes teach anything that I didn’t agree with. Now, to be fair…I don’t have the time that the “theology police” have…and, unlike many of them, I actually HAVE a life…which means I do not sit around and listen to countless hours of messages and then list out everything that is wrong with their theology because; after all, I am God’s gift to modern day teachers and preachers…and He has called me to rebuke those who don’t believe just like me, right?
(By the way…could that type of thinking be pride and arrogance disguised as “concern?” Just curious?)
Number Two – Maybe Bishop Jakes and I would have some theological differences if we were to go into and in depth conversation. However, theological differences should never result in relational hatred.
One of the myths that has dominated the church world for WAY too long is, “I can’t learn from people unless they act, believe, preach and teach just like me.” Let me say it outright…that attitude reeks of pride, arrogance and self centeredness. It makes someone or something the focus other than Jesus!
I happen to learn a lot from people I don’t see eye to eye with. I think there is as much to learn through our differences as there is through our similarities. Besides, if I always hang out with people who believe just like me…I become the boring blogger who hates everyone who ISN’T just like me!
I believe Bishop Jakes is a man who loves Jesus and really does strive to learn from Him and hear His voice…and I know I could learn a lot from him as far as the way he handles his schedule…how he personally deals with and overcomes the negative crap that often comes his way…and how he has been able to maintain a healthy marriage while having an explosive ministry.
