A Couple of Quotes…

Feb 1, 2010

There are two quotes lately that seem to be bouncing around in my head…I can’t shake them and so I wanted to share them here.  The first one is by C.S. Lewis (I come back to this quote a lot…)

“Indeed, if we consider the unblushing promises of reward and the staggering nature of the rewards promised in the Gospels, it would seem that Our Lord finds our desires, not too strong, but too weak.  We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea.  We are far too easily pleased!”

My prayer for me and everyone at NewSpring Church is that we would be discontent with anything less than what God has for us.  We serve an amazing God…and He is offended NOT when we ask BIG…but when we don’t ask at all!

The next is by Charles H. Spurgeon…

“I believe the doctrine of election, because I am quite certain that, if God had not chosen me, I should never have chosen Him; and I am sure He chose me before I was born, or else He never would have chosen me afterwards; and He must have elected me for reasons unknown to me, for I never could find any reason in myself why He should have looked upon me with special love

I can’t get over this one.  Quite often people will ask me, “What has surprised you the most about what has happened at NewSpring Church” and my asnwer is always the same - that HE would allow me to be a part of it.  I know who I was without Him…I know I would be nothing if it were not for Him…I know there was NOTHING good about me and that EVERYTHING that is good in my life is FROM HIM!  HE amazes me!!!
