Why I Believe Most Marriages Fail…

Jul 19, 2012

The statistics are staggering…no matter where you look either inside or outside of the church…marriages are in trouble.

No one intends for it to be that way!  Seriously, I have never officiated a wedding where the couple told me that their intention was that at some point in the next three to five years they really wanted to be at the point where they could no longer stand the sight of each other.

But…it happens!

It is happening!

AND…one of the major reasons why I believe it is taking place is because…

Couples are thinking that the momentum created by yesterday’s romance will be enough to carry them into an amazing future.

Seriously, that’s it!

I’ve seen SO many dating and newly married couples that make it a priority to pursue romance and intimacy with each other…but then, “life happens,” and over time what used to be a romantic evening is replaced with a couple sitting on opposite ends of the couch watching a movie that they have each seen at least a dozen times.

We have got to realize that satan doesn’t want us to hate our spouse…he just wants us to take them for granted!

Yesterday’s romance might have been great…but it was great yesterday!!!  I would ask EVERY married couple reading this right now…what are you doing TODAY to stir up the romance in your marriage?

And stop with the “well, if my spouse would do BLANK then I would do BLANK!”  That is nothing but a huge pile of crap!  You can’t control them…you can control you…and you can make the decision to STOP making excuses and START making a difference today!

And men…please pay special attention here, intimacy and romance is built over TIME…and if you have gone quite a while ignoring this aspect of your marriage then you have got to understand that it is going to take time to sow seeds of intimacy and romance back into your marriage, but DO NOT give up because SHE IS SO WORTH IT (see Galatians 6:9!)  Us men tend to be lazy…and it is impossible to lead through laziness when it comes to this aspect of our marriage!

Yesterday’s romance will not sustain tomorrow!

AND…great marriages do not happen by accident but rather on purpose because two people are dedicated to doing whatever it takes to make it work!

So, married peeps…what will you commit to RIGHT NOW that is going to matter to your spouse in the future?
