Let’s BE THE CHURCH!!!

Jul 15, 2010

Dear Anderson Campus…

I saw this article in the newspaper a few weeks ago…and it both broke my heart AND fired me up…

It broke my heart because it was a reminder that we live in a world that is desperate.  People right here in our community are HUNGRY, not just spiritually…but PHYSICALLY.  I think I lose sight of that so often as I open my refrigerator and then complain that “we have nothing to eat in this house.”

But then I thought, “this is UNACCEPTABLE!  We have incredibly generous people IN our church who, when we partner together, can literally step up and make a serious statement in this community!”

The Bible tells us in James 2:14-17 that we aren’t called to merely IDENTIFY needs…but rather to step up and INVEST in meeting those needs in Jesus name!

So…THIS SUNDAY I am asking everyone of you who attend the Anderson campus to do ALL that you can to help us serve our community by participating in a food drive.  We are partnering with Anderson Interfaith Ministries and Good Neighbor Cupboard of Anderson to provide food for families in need. You can help by bringing items from the list below.

  • Canned goods
  • Canned meats
  • Grits
  • Pork and Beans
  • Pancake mixes
  • Syrup
  • Peanut Butter
  • Cereals
  • Dried Beans
  • Rice

Seriously NewSpring…this isn’t an “ask” for millions of dollars OR for you to get on a plane and go overseas for 10 years and live in a hut and eat bugs.  (Although it may be a step in that direction!)  :-)

It’s a simple “ask” for all of us to take a trip to the grocery store, buy some items on the list above and then come together THIS Sunday and BE the church for this community.

And…I honestly believe as a result that men and women will be fed…and through our generosity people will ultimately meet Christ and this community WILL experience peoples lives being changed (see II Corinthians 9:6-15!)

Let’s BE THE CHURCH!  I love you guys…I can’t  wait for Sunday!
