Seven Things We Allow To Guide Us At NewSpring—Part Three

Feb 6, 2009

(The other four next week…)

#3 - We Understand That People Are Busy!

The last thing that most people want is something else to do.

AND…unfortunately the church has made discipleship all about programming and not about process!

I remember when I first met Christ there was…

  • Sunday school
  • Church service
  • Discipleship Training
  • Sunday night service (this was all in one day)
  • Monday night Bible study
  • Tuesday night visitation
  • Wednesday night service
  • Choir practice
  • And a HOST of other weekend activities.

The church equated being busy with being godly…and LOST!  (Honestly, some of the meanest people I’ve ever met were involved in all the above!!!)
We believe discipleship is a process…and we encourage people to respond to Jesus as He continually draws them to Himself.

(Isn’t it amazing how the church completely trusts God to lead people to salvation…but then feel the need to jump in and handle the sanctification process without Him?)

We don’t have a ton of activities we ask people to get involved in.  We simply want to do church in such a way that people either learn something new or are reminded of something they had forgotten…challenge people to serve and give…and teach on the concept of community.

We don’t want people to be so busy with programming that they have no time for the process of learning to hear the voice of Jesus and respond to Him accordingly!
