Leadership

Which Type Of Leader Are You (Active or Passive)

May 15, 2017

What type of leader are you…ACTIVE or PASSIVE?

Passive leaders make excuses, for example, they often say, “We cannot do BLANK because we do not have BLANK.”  The blame is always placed on circumstances, other people or lack of resources - and inactivity due to being a “victim” of the situation they happen to be in always holds them (and whatever they are leading) back.

(By the way—people WILL feel sorry for a victim, but they WILL NOT follow one!)

Active leaders don’t make excuses, they make a difference.  Instead of saying what they cannot do because of what they do not have, they often say, “We may not have BLANK, but we are still going to do BLANK.”

They refuse to pass the blame on to people, circumstances or a lack of resources because they understand that Jesus did not call them to whine about the situation they are in, but rather to lead their people through it!

I love the story of Jesus turning the water into wine in John chapter two (cue all “you would” jokes here!)

Jesus and His disciples are at a wedding, they run out of wine—and a serious social setback is about to take place.

Mary approaches Jesus with the problem, and then tells the servants, “Do whatever He tells you…”  (John 2:5)

The next phrase has always seized my attention - the Bible says in John 2:6-7, “6 Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons. 7 Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim.

Don’t miss this powerful principle - THE VESSEL FOR THE MIRACLE WAS ALREADY IN THE HOUSE!

Jesus did not say, “Geez mom, they don’t have a vineyard, they don’t have a wine store we can run to,” nope, He simply looked around, saw what other people saw as average and used it to do the miraculous.

The reason for writing today is not to DISCOURAGE you—but rather to ENCOURAGE you.  Instead of focusing on what you do not have, focus on what God has put around you that He wants you to use in order to make a difference.  (Doing so may require some serious time thinking about and praying—asking Jesus to allow you to let you see as He sees!)

I really do believe you can do EXACTLY what God has called you to do - and if He called you to it, then He will see you through it - AND that He will equip you to do exactly what He is calling you to do.

We cannot allow ourselves to begin to believe the lie that “one day when I have BLANK then I will do BLANK.”  After all; if God can’t trust us with what He is calling us to do NOW, how in the world can He trust us with what He wants us to do next.
