Sunday Night Reflections…

May 2, 2010

GREAT DAY…here are a few wrap up thoughts…

  • We saw LOTS of people surrender their lives to Christ today as we celebrated communion…THAT never gets old!
  • All too often we come to church today wanting to feel good about ourselves instead of being willing to humble ourselves and ask Jesus, “is there ANY area in my life that I have not surrendered to You?”
  • I really do think I need to do a workout video series entitled, “PastorP90X!”
  • There is a time for encouragement, for inspiration, for motivation…but today was a time to get intense and focus on how our walk with Christ is.
  • Communion was not given to the church so that we could feel better about ourselves but rather so that we could reflect on our walk with Him and refocus our lives.
  • It is unfortunate…but in church world today what seems to be the most important thing is how others PERCEIVE our walk with Christ is…and if we can fake it then we can make it!
  • There is a HUGE difference between walking AROUND Jesus and walking WITH Him!
  • It’s funny that in church world today people actually believe that how we dress determines our love for Christ…which is SAD because we serve a God who sees through our clothes directly into our hearts…and we can’t hide what’s inside of there!
  • BTW…“giving our best to God” does not mean coats, ties and pantyhose…those things weren’t even around when we were told to give our best!!!  :-)
  • When we read the Scriptures for INFORMATION but refuse to experience the TRANSFORMATION that God desires to bring about…we actually mock His name!
  • Having KNOWLEDGE of God’s Word isn’t the way we should measure spirituality (if it is then just remember that satan has his P h d  in theology)...it’s the APPLICATION of the INFORMATION that matters!
  • It is possible to KNOW God’s Word but not OBEY God’s Word.
  • Traditionally those in the church who have the biggest EARS (people who show up at every single Bible study and such trying to HEAR new stuff) also have the biggest REARS!!!  (I heard Rick Warren say that…loved it!)
  • If someone says they want to know God’s will but refuse to open His Word…that person is a liar.
  • Yes, the story about me having to cut back on coffee is true…it’s tough…but I am sleeping!
  • What is the ONE THING in your life that Jesus is dealing with right now?
  • Warning…He goes for the HEART and is NOT impressed with the “show” or the “know!”  (See Isaiah 29:13)
  • Jesus never asks us to give something up that He doesn’t replace with something that is SO MUCH BETTER!
  • So many people criticize the Rich Young Ruler from walking away from Jesus…yet many times we do the same thing.
  • If we’re not willing to deal with the “one thing” then we won’t be able to move on to the “next thing!”
  • Jesus isn’t going after that “one thing” to hold us back but rather to set us free!!!
  • Today was one of the GREATEST Communion services I’ve ever participated in here at NewSpring Church.
  • AND…I LOVE serving here…can’t wait to see what happens next.
  • AND…TRUST ME when I say that next week (Mother’s Day) is going to be a “NEXT LEVEL” service…trust me, get here, get your friends here…and bring some tissue!!!  WOW!
  • Congrats to Brad Cooper and Cory Marie on their engagement this past Thursday!

That’s about it…good night!!!
