Random Thought Thursday

Mar 16, 2006

The marathon crew is preparing for our 15 mile run this Saturday…we are actually going to run from the NewSpring building to Tillman Hall at good ‘ole Clemson University. (Yes—we have arranged transportation back to Anderson—people keep asking about that for some reason…trust me…I am running there…I am NOT running back!!!)

I am SO pumped about this run…we all are. This will be a good test of our endurance and training so far…please pray that we will not get hit by a car or chased by a cow that has somehow managed to get free. (Also pray that when I run by Macks drive in that I do not run in there and get a milkshake!)

One of the things that is cool is that a group of people are going to do water stops for us along the way…wow…reminds me of Christianity…we are all called to run the race…but we all need times of refreshing—and God puts the right people in our lives at the right time to do that!

Oh yeah…one more thing about running and I will move on. People—please stop telling me that after I run the marathon I will be in pain. DUH! After running 26.2 miles most people would be in pain! :-) (Whew—I feel better…that’s off my chest!)

In other news—Todd had an interesting post on his blog yesterday about what type of car a pastor should drive. There is some really interesting discussion on there…and of course, I had to comment. You can read it here.

For those going into ministry you need to understand something—you will begin to live what is referred to as “life in a fishbowl.” This literally scares some people to death…they can’t handle it. However, if you live a life above reproach and continually fall in love over and over again with Jesus then this will be no problem.

And please understand that you will be judged on everything you do! People will make comments about the kind of car you drive, the home you live in…and do I even need to mention the things they will say about your kids!

(I really need to say this…I have seen so many parents “go off” on the pastors kids, saying that they are nothing more than hellions…when in reality the reason the pastors kids are like that is because they are spending the majority of their time with the kids of the parents who are doing most of the criticizing! Just being honest!)

Back to the point…everything you do will be analyzed and talked about…and you won’t believe what people will say about you…it amazes me the things that get back to me that I said—but I actually never said them.

Like I said…love Jesus, love people…and you won’t go wrong.

Another random thought—I am excited about this Sunday. Ed Young, senior pastor of Fellowship Church in Texas will be speaking at NewSpring. Ed has been so kind to me over the past several years and has served as a source of teaching and encouragement for me. It is an honor to have him here and I know our church will be blessed.

Home groups are tonight! YEAH! Our home group is so…interesting. One of the most awesome things is a young lady…let’s just call her, I don’t know—JILL—who makes up voices for dogs. I am really hoping to get this on camera one day. (By the way—we do talk about Jesus in our home group!)

One last thing…I am going to be in Greenville around lunch time tomorrow…I have an appointment at 1:00 and figured I might head downtown and get some grub…any good restaurants that someone would like to recommend?
