Awesome Quotes

Aug 16, 2006

I have an old Bible here in my office that I used when we first began NewSpring. It is literally falling apart and is held together by tape in some places. I “retired” this Bible a few years ago and bought another one just like it…when you read a new Bible the Scriptures seem to come alive again for some reason.

Anyway, I remember putting several quotes in the front of this Bible by great men of God that have gone on before us…and today I would just like to share them in the hopes that you may receive some of the same encouragement I received…and still receive…when reading them.

“Lord, send me anywhere, only go with me. Lay any burden on me, only sustain me. Sever any tie but the tie that binds me to thyself.” David Livingstone

“Expect great things from God, attempt great things for God.” William Carey I DO want to comment on this one…the problem with many Christians is that their expector has expired. One of the things that I consistently pray for is that God will show up every Sunday at NewSpring…and I show up truly expecting that He will. The other issue is that many Christians will expect God to do something—but they don’t want to do anything. That doesn’t work either!

“We cannot preach good news and be bad news.” Tekmito Adegemo

“God almost never calls His people to a fair fight.” George Otis

“He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.” Jim Elliot

“I am immortal until God’s work for me to do is done. The Lord reigns.” Henry Martin  This quote came to life for me last year when I nearly died.  Life is too short to play it safe.  Life is too short to wonder what other people think about me.  Life is too short to try to please the masses.  I only have one shot at this life…one shot to do it right…and I can choose to listen to the crowd or listen to Jesus.  I will go with Jesus and let the chips fall where they may…no one or nothing can touch me unless God allows it.  He is Soveriegn and in control!
Those are some of my favorites…hope you receive some encouragement from them.
