16 Questions That Will Help Us Make It In Ministry - Part Four

4. Am I Listening To Jesus?

In Matthew 10.5 the Bible says that Jesus clearly gave instructions.

One of the things I said at the very first UNLEASH conference that has guided me through so many tough times is “leadership is as easy as listening to God and doing what He says.”  The best leaders in the Bible were usually CLUELESS when it came to what to do next…which forced them to stay connected to the one who called them and BEG for His direction.

(Seriously…Moses didn’t have a “40 Year Strategic Plan for Relocation,” he just listened to God…and then obeyed.  One of the most common phrases in Exodus through Deuteronomy is, “And the Lord said to Moses…”)

One of the things that I have to constantly remind myself of is this is His ministry not mine and He has the right to command anything of me.  Let me be very clear, I’ve made the mistake in the past of saying “God is asking me to do something”.  The reality of it is God has never asked me to do anything.  When He speaks He commands me.  I am His and my passion and desire should be to listen to Him which means daily time with Him is not merely a good suggestion it is essential to have a great ministry.

My calling is not to inform Him about how to do His job…but to consistently place myself in a position of surrender and follow His leaderhip and thank Him for His mercy in that He hasn’t asked me to do this without Him!

I am so guiltly of making leadership way too difficult…it really is as “easy” as listening to God and then doing what He says!
